Carl Knopke, M.D.

Carl G. Knopke III, M.D., MFOMA, FAAFP is a board-certified family medicine and obesity medicine physician who has cared for patients in Riverside since 2004. As CEO and managing partner of Raincross Medical Group, he combines preventive care, thoughtful medical management, and clear communication to help patients understand their health and take an active role in improving it. He strives to make each visit positive, respectful, and efficient, with questions answered in straightforward, practical terms.

Dr. Knopke has a special interest in helping patients address weight-related conditions through individualized, evidence-based care. As medical director of Inland Empire Weight Loss, he uses the core tools of obesity medicine—nutrition, physical activity, behavioral strategies, and medication when appropriate—to create plans that fit each patient’s health, preferences, and daily life. His approach looks beyond the number on the scale to conditions such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, arthritis, and other metabolic concerns, with an emphasis on sustainable progress and long-term well-being.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from UCLA and his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He completed his family medicine residency at Riverside County Regional Medical Center, where he served as chief resident. Dr. Knopke is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians and a Master Fellow of the Obesity Medicine Association. His national service has included membership on the OMA Board of Trustees, committee leadership, curriculum development, and teaching physicians preparing for certification in obesity medicine. In 2016, the OMA honored him with the Steelman-Seim Educator Award for Excellence in Academics, recognizing excellence in advancing health care through education and teaching.

Board Certifications

Dr. Knopke also serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Family Medicine at the University of California, Riverside School of Medicine and has taught medical students and physicians for many years. His professional interests include the connections among behavior, stress, mood, hunger, metabolism, and exercise physiology. For patients, that means care grounded in current medicine and shaped by real conversation: understanding what has or has not worked before, identifying barriers, and building a plan that is both medically sound and realistic to follow.

His commitment to exercise and healthy aging is personal as well as professional. A current U.S. Masters Swimming member with Riverside Aquatics Association, Dr. Knopke has recorded 71 competitive swims and earned four individual and one relay U.S. Masters Swimming Top 10 achievements. He brings a firsthand appreciation for training, consistency, recovery, and lifelong fitness into his conversations with patients. Scheduling

Our office strives to be available at times when you are able to come in. To that end, our office offers a range of appointment times. We have morning appointments that start as early as 7:00 am and evening appointment as late as 6:00 pm. Our office is also open during the lunch hour on dedicated days. To facilitate these accessible appointment times our office offers 2 different providers to meet your needs, Carl Knopke M.D. and Madeline Gould, PA-C.

Obesity Medicine

If you are looking to lose weight by participating in a medically supervised weight loss program, we would like to help you. We have found that weight related problems such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, obstructive sleep apnea, hyperlipidemia and other medical problems can be brought under control with medical weight loss therapy. Usually, medications relating to the above conditions can be reduced and sometimes eliminated by participation in a medically supervised weight loss program.

Madeline Gould, PA-C

Maddie has been with our practice since June of 2017 and she has quickly become a patient favorite. Her real passion is preventative medicine with an emphasis on helping people to lose weight. She has helped her patients regain control of their health through our weight loss program. She has a great connection with her patients and has been able to help those who have been on multiple diets in the past without success. She is knowledgeable in various types of exercise, including, but not limited to high intensity interval training, strength conditioning, and functional workouts.

Maddie is a certified Physician Assistant who trained at Riverside County Regional Medical Center and graduated in 2012. She later joined a family planning clinic where she gained a strong background working in women’s health for 5 years. She is experienced in different forms of contraception and is certified to place intrauterine devices (IUD’s) and contraceptive implants. Her primary medical areas of interest are obesity medicine, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, high blood pressure, depression, and anxiety. She has an additional interest in the behavioral component of obesity and how this relates to weight loss.

Maddie is quick to congratulate her successful patients and offer excellent advice to those who are struggling. For those eager to get in, Maddie is accepting new patients and looks forward to helping you to reach your goals.
